EXPERIENCES OF MY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM AS A TEACHER TRAINEE
MY EXPERIENCES AT DARUL ULOOM VHSS PULLEPPADY
As per the requirements of B.Ed.
curriculum, the student teachers got an opportunity to attend 4 months teaching
practice. I have done my training at Darul Uloom VHSS Pulleppady from July 24
2019 to November 8 2019. As a teacher trainee I felt that this is the best opportunity
I have received during the two year B.Ed. Programme. Because during this period
we did a lot of activities that are related to what a teacher should know and
do in their teaching life. I was so excited to take the classes. Initially I
felt lack of confidence but after this programme I was able to develop my
confidence level, teaching skill and competency with the help of my mentor
teacher and course co-ordinator. As a part of this training I taught in higher
secondary level and I learned to use a variety of teaching strategies and
techniques. Following are the details of my activities at the school as a
teacher trainee.
VALUE EDUCATION CLASSES:
Value education is the
process by which people give moral values to each other. During my internship
programme I got an opportunity to take value education classes for higher
secondary students... I prepared lesson plans for the topics honesty and
sacrifice and included classroom activities such as video presentation, gaming,
and PowerPoint presentation, general discussion etc. the classes were very
enactive and students gave feedback that they enjoyed the class as well it
provoked their thoughts in various fields of their life.
CASE STUDY:
The case study method is used for studying
the behavioural problem of a maladjusted or deviant individual. The topic
selected for the study was ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). The
child I have selected for the study was not the only child who have similar
problem in the classroom. In order to collect information regarding the child I
have used several techniques like observation, interview, school records etc.
Through this activity I was able to provide remedial measures to those students
who face ADHD difficulties.
.
ACTION RESEARCH: Action research is a
formative study of progress commonly practiced by Teachers
at school. The topic I have selected was ‘efficiency of doing accounting
problems systematically’. I prepared an action plan for the improvement of
students on doing accounting problems systematically. I used a variety of
techniques to find out the reasons behind the problems and suggested methods to
solve this problem. Through this activity I learned to identify common problems
at schools and to find out methods to solve it.
UNIT PLAN: The
unit plan provides guidelines for preparing lesson plan. As a part of my
training I prepared unit plan of the chapter ‘business services’. The chapter
was divided into ten main topics and planned activities, materials and learning
strategies for each topic. Through this activity I understood the importance of
preparing unit plan. This helped me to prepare the lesson plans effectively.
LESSON
PLAN AND
CLASSES:
During
the internship programme I got an opportunity to teach business studies and
accountancy for higher secondary students. I prepared 50 lesson plans and used
variety of teaching strategies like video presentation, power point
presentation, role play, dramatization, gaming, review, group discussion,
general discussion etc. Through these classes I learned to use various teaching
techniques and gained confidence in teaching.
LAC CLASSES: LAC refers to Language across the
Curriculum. In order to acquaint the students with a foreign language I have
planned two lesson plans from my subject in English language and taken the
class by using English as medium of instruction. I had given due importance for
the development of language skills like listening, speaking, reading and
writing among students. This provided me the opportunity to develop the
language skills of the students and myself.
CLUB ACTIVITIES: A Club is an association of
people united by a common interest or goal. During my internship programme I
have taken initiative to start a commerce club at the school. The club
formation has been officially announced in the school assembly and club
officials were selected in the first meeting .Debates, quiz, commerce
exhibition, etc. were some of the activities performed under the leadership of
commerce club officials. As a teacher trainee it was a great opportunity for me
to take charge of a club in a school and I learned to organise and guide
students to perform various activities.
SELF
ASSESSMENT TOOL: Self-assessment is one of the most overlooked
forms of explicit evaluation. In order to evaluate my performance as a teacher
I prepared a self-assessment tool and distributed among my students. After
analysing the results I understood that my performance was good and I found out
the weak areas. Through this activity I was able to identify my strength and
weaknesses in teaching.
PEER EVALUATION: Peer assessment is an
educational activity in which students judge the performance of the peers. For
this purpose I prepared a peer evaluation tool which includes various criteria’s
for measuring the introduction of class, subject competency, learning
materials, questions-answers, concluding session, class management, interaction
with students, personality, methods and techniques etc. I observed two classes
taken by my peers on commerce and mathematics. Through this activity I learned
the criteria’s for evaluating the performance of a teacher and obtained
insights about techniques to improve my performance as a teacher.
ACHIEVEMENT TEST: An achievement test is a test
for developed skill or knowledge. To test the knowledge acquired by my students
after teaching the unit ‘sub division of journal’ I had conducted an
achievement test in first year commerce class. Initially I prepared the blue
print of the question paper and with the help of that I prepared the question
paper consisting of three sections and 25 marks. The test was administered and
the results were analysed. From this I found that some students face
difficulties in some sub units. Through this activity I understood how to
prepare question paper and analyse the results obtained.
DIAGNOSTIC
TEST: After
the administration of achievement test I understood that some students were
weak in certain areas of the unit. Analysis of the achievement test result
helped me to find out the difficult topics and given remedial classes for weak
students. Various teaching techniques like role play, power point presentation,
brainstorming, problem solving, general discussion etc. Through this activity I
understood the importance of remedial teaching and the methods and techniques
that can be used for that purpose.
PHYSICAL, HEALTH, YOGA CLASSES: During
my internship program I prepared physical education, health education and yoga
lesson plans on the topics which give importance to physical fitness, mental and happiness. It was a great opportunity for
me as a teacher student because I got much information about healthy life style
and I was able to impart this knowledge to my students. Apart from usual
classroom atmosphere these classes provided with different ambiance and helped
me to create cordial relationship with my students.
CLASS ON ART FORMS AND CULTURAL HERITAGE IN INDIA: Indian art form has a fascinating history and
brings to the fore a range of viewpoints, issues, debates and methods. My class
on art forms was consisting of art forms of states like Kerala, Tamilnadu,
Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. I prepared a lesson plan including the art forms
of the above given states and details about cultural heritage if India.
Learning strategies like power point presentation, video presentation,
narration etc. were used during the class. The class was interesting and
informative.
ORGANISING ACTIVITY ON NATIONAL INTEGRATION: To inculcate
national integration, patriotism, and universal brotherhood among students a
quiz competition was conducted under my initiative as a part of Independence Day
celebrations. My confidence level, creativity and experience in organising
activities at school increased as a result of this.
My internship programme at the
school was a mind blowing experience for me. It provided me with insights to develop
my teaching skill and personality as a teacher.
